Today, TIDES OF WAR is hitting bookshelves and e-readers. This is the book I was about three quarters of the way through writing when I went to visit my father for what turned out to be the last time. It was hard to finish, but I know it’s what Dad would have wanted, and I am so grateful to Simon & Schuster and Blizzard Entertainment for their kind thoughts and patience with me during this rough time.
I’m extremely proud of the final product. “No tears in the writer, no tears in the reader,” as the quote goes, so I do hope that my readers (thank you all!) find this to be a moving read. It is one of those interesting coincidences that it deals with profound loss, grief, and learning to deal with it, as well as the excitement and adventure I love to put in my Warcraft novels. I think this one has something we all can relate to.
I’m hoping it will hit the NYT Bestseller list, not for me, but for Dad, as a tribute to him. It is my 7th Warcraft novel, it would be my 7th bestseller, and my father would have turned 92 on September 7. Books are counted during the first week of publication, so from today through next Tuesday, for the list. I’m a little worried that a crucial patch to the game itself, that deals with events in the book, might distract some readers from purchasing this week.
So I ask you, let’s hit the list for my Dad. A lot of heart went into this book. So if you are intrigued, or were planning on buying it, or know a friend who might enjoy it, please download it, visit your local bookstore, or purchase from this link at Amazon.com.
Take good care, and thank you all for your kind thoughts.
Fix’t problem. π
Purchased and devoured. Your work is always wonderful, but this one deeply moved me. Thank you for helping me heal some old, unseen wounds.
Jon, thank you for taking the time to tell me! This is what all authors strive to do, and it means a lot to me.
Wonderful book Christie. I wrote a little bit about it on my blog as to my thoughts and reactions to it. http://100acres.org/blog/2012/09/01/the-waters-just-fine/ Good luck on the NYT list.
Thank you for your review! And to answer at least one question–Aegwyn died in the comics some time ago; I’d originally written her into The Shattering and had to edit her out. π
I was at my local Barnes and Noble the day the book came out to get my copy! My daughter loves your writing and is reading it first. I look forward to getting to read another of your great books.
Miss Golden. I am mostly a WoW player and GM who, to be honest, my interest was to know about the lore and understand the so called NPC’s and characters in-game. After read “Arthas” and “Rise of the Horde” (in that order) I was surprised of your narrative and talent to describe the “Azeroth and Draenor environments” and how you managed the characters; those previous novels convinced me to buy “Tides of War”.
I believe that with this recent novel you did a great jump in an amazing way that even left me with open mouth….how you described the battles, but I was really thrilled about the deep humanity you injected in each character with profound details (even you added minor gestures) and how you managed the situations between them…perfectly narrated that even a detailed “movie” could be possible inside my head as if I was in an inner cinema, creating besides for myself the “sounds” of the novel. Believe me, I think you just gave to the world one of the best novels you ever wrote, but to me is the best ever WoW book of all.
I was not a fan of yours to be honest but you just gained one today.
You gave the perfect gift to your father, I am sure of it.
Congratulations, and thank you very much by give us a great novel.
Thank you so much for your kind words! Your post arrived on Dad’s birthday, another lovely git. π
CONGRATULATIONS! You did it, Christie!

Thank you, for Tides of War. From cover to cover, it made me smile, laugh, gasp, cry, scream, and hope.
At number 13! Higher even than ARTHAS. Happy birthday, Dad!
Congratulations, Christie!!! Tides of War hit #28 on the NYT Best Sellers list! Woot!
I’m trying to see if it’s still on the top 100…if someone can give me a link, I’d appreciate it. I’m hoping it has staying power!
Christie, My daughter (14 years old) enjoyed reading this book and created a book review on her blog (http://paytonposts.com/?p=117). She indicated that “Iβve never cried this much over a book”. Your heart did show through and you did your father proud! Congratulations on hitting the NYT best sellers list!!!
I just finished reading TIDES OF WAR, and I have to tell you it was one of the best books I’ve read this year. You have an emotional connection to the story that not all writers can establish and it made the read extremely personal for me. Awesome book!
